“Whatever you do, do with determination. You have one life to live; do your work with passion and give your best. Whether you want to be a chef, doctor, actor, or a mother, be passionate to get the best result.”
Tips for transforming your passion into your business
So you have this particular passion that you have been nursing in your head for ages. It may be something you have wanted to do for a long time, but you haven’t known how to start. You sleep and wake up everyday nursing the same plans. But a passion that is only nursed in the heart doesn’t yield fruit. In fact, it is useless, until you get it out of your head and turn it into something meaningful. The big question now becomes, “how to transform your passion into your business?” Below are tips you can use to do that.
1. Get it out of your head
If your passion is only in your head, then it is just as useless as the “p” in psychology. If you have ever sat down to think about all the days, weeks, and months that you have wasted ruminating over your dreams and passions, then you will find out that you have wasted enough productive time already.
Now, wake up to take action. Instead of falling back into the dangerous pit of daydreaming, get a pen and paper and put your dreams and passions down into writing. Also, consider sharing it with friends; in fact, do anything to get it out of your head. That is the first step.
2. Give it a name
There is a popular quote by Cheshire Cat that goes like this, “If you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there.” After you have gotten your passion out of your head, you need to give it a name. Giving it a specific name will allow you to make time appropriate and specific plans to turn it to a business. If being the world’s best guitarist is where your passion lies, be specific about it as it will help you to turn the passion into a business.
#1 and #2 together I call “Notice and Name.” These are the first steps towards making your dream a reality.
3. Get aggressive
All your life, you must have heard that hard work is the key to success. Yes, that statement is still true. Become proactive, start taking targeted actions to make your passion come alive. Perhaps you could attend a seminar, or take an online course, or meet with a business consultant. The idea is to aggressively pursue your dreams with concrete actions. Once you take the first steps, it gets easier.
4. Get others involved
Speaking your passions aloud, and bouncing ideas off of a friend or trusted mentor can help you realize that you really can do this. The very act of saying your ideas out loud or writing them down on paper is a positive early step towards making the idea come true.
5. Ignore the naysayers
There will always be negative thinkers who will never see the benefit in ideas that are different. They can always go an extra mile to compile a detailed report on why your project will fail. You see, people resist change. They resist change in themselves, and if someone else is considering a change for the better, they must give reasons why it doesn’t work. Otherwise your change causes their lack of change to be uncomfortable.
Always remember, this is your dream. You can make that passion a reality by taking positive action, in big or small measure, but you must start today! Don’t let the years go by and your passion gather dust. Finally learn how to transform your passion into your business!
You can do it!
