Getting anywhere in life often requires thinking big. Shoot for the moon as the saying goes. These tips are to help you overcome barriers and start thinking big yourself.
1. Believe in Success
If you don’t have a belief system in place, it’s unlikely you will succeed. This is true for just about anything you are trying to accomplish. When self-doubt rears its ugly head, a lack of a belief system will derail your efforts. On the other hand, a rock-solid belief system will serve to derail your self-doubt.
2. Piggyback Off the Success of Others
Read profiles of successful people. See how they overcome their own obstacles. Apply what they teach to your own situation. Those people were just like you when they started out. They were ordinary people that learned that thinking big was the way to go. If they can do it so can you.
3. Reduce Negative Influences
Any amount of negativity in your life is only going to bring you down. This makes it practically impossible to think big. This could be your own negative thoughts or it could be the thoughts or sayings of other people. The opposite is also true. If you project positive thoughts, you will find they are returned to you. Always think in terms of what goes around comes around.
4. Think Big, Act Small
It’s great to have a vision to make something great happen. But to get there you may have to create small steps that lead to the bigger picture. These are easier to plan and to implement. It is tough for anyone to think big and then simply wing it towards success.
5. Partner with Other Big Thinkers
When you have a group of people who believe that anything is possible, you are going to be an unstoppable group. While you may be able to succeed on your own, imagine the possibilities when joining forces with others determined to make big things a reality.
6. Learn from Failure
Failure should never be looked upon as a destination. If you read the profiles of many successful people you will find several examples of failures along the way. The media only shows the success of those people. The truth is they have stopped counting the number of times they failed. Focus on what you can learn from failure. The only true way to fail is to give up.
7. Self-Confidence is Your Ally
Confidence is not something that you are born with. There are methods to help you increase your self-confidence or you can hire a coach. When you think big, confidence is going to help drive you forward towards your goals. Your self-confidence can also help motivate others to see your vision.
Most people are small thinkers. Therefore, the very fact that you are a big thinker means that the field is pretty wide open for you. That can be quite comforting although people are not always going to understand your big thinking ways. But that is fine. You don’t need those people.
Action Steps to Take:
1. Think of three big goals that you have wanted to accomplish but have yet to do so. Let them be as big as you want, like travelling to space or starting a company that is going to be bigger than Apple, etc.
2. Take one of the above ideas and seek out people that have similar goals. Set up times to meet to determine how to make it happen. Meet frequently and weed out people who are not taking it seriously.
3. Find a free or inexpensive course on self-confidence. There are some available on Udemy.com or you could search using Google.
